Chiayi:
Chiayi City is a city located in the plains of southwestern Taiwan. It is surrounded by Chiayi County and is currently governed as a provincial city of Taiwan Province, Republic of China. Formerly called Kagee during the late Qing Dynasty and Kagi during the Japanese era, its historical name is Tirosen.
With pastoral locales and an idyllic serenity, Chiayi is essentially an agricultural township in central Taiwan. Chiayi is one of the oldest cities of Taiwan, and the quiet town still clings on to the traditional culture that marked the history of the place. The city thrives chiefly on the traditional occupations of agriculture, fishery, forestry, animal husbandry, and salt mining. Holding on to its time hallowed culture, Chiayi fosters the folk arts and traditional handicrafts.
